Mental Health Care Home

Most people are familiar with nursing care homes and mental hospitals but they are probably not familiar with mental health care homes.

A mental health care home is a residential facility that specializes in taking care of those who have been disabled by mental illness. Some of these facilities will take people of all ages who need care and treatments. Others specialize in helping older individuals burned with psychiatric and other problems.

The difference between these facilities and mental hospitals is that hospitals provide a much higher level of care and treatment. The homes serve as residential communities for those who can not function in society at large.

Nursing care homes generally care for only those who are physically disabled or older individuals who have been incapacitated by conditions like dementia. Care homes that specialize in mental health concentrate on those need ongoing psychiatric or psychological care.

Such a home will usually have a qualified psychiatrist or psychologist on staff as well as nurses and other medical specialists trained and qualified in mental care. In some cases these facilities will concentrate on a particular condition such as dementia or drug addiction.

The best of these facilities will provide patients with a wide variety of activities so they can feel like members of society.
